It’s no question that Charleston has a thriving brunch culture. For Charlestonians, brunch is a weekly ritual. With traditional local favorites and the never ending wave of new spots opening up around town the options for great brunch in Charleston are endless.
Brunch at The Grocery offers a noteworthy and celebrated menu every Sunday. The old-school industrial spot on Cannon Street is great for catching up with friends over eclectic brunch cocktails and savory, re-vamped brunch dish favorites. Make sure and try their one-of-a-kind brunch cocktails like the Sea Side Spritz or Charred Tomato Bloody Mary made with housemade charred tomato puree and served with three garnishing options.
Executive chef and owner Kevin Johnson has given traditional southern dishes and brunch staples a makeover; emphasizing farm-to-table dining, seasonal produce, and local sourcing. Brunch at The Grocery serves up a menu of Lowcountry favorites with a twist with dishes like Shrimp and Grits featuring local Geechie Boy grits, fresh, local shrimp, a charred tomato gravy, and topped with crispy bacon. Need a fix for your sweet tooth craving? They also serve a delectable twist on French toast that is to die for. Their Vanilla Mascarpone Stuffed French Toast is stuffed with homemade vanilla mascarpone and generously topped with sweet, peach syrup, fresh blueberries, and crunchy pecan crumble. Y’all need to check this place out!
Since their opening in 2011, The Grocery has been committed to local ingredients. What I find super clever of them is their canning program, which allows them to preserve local, seasonal ingredients to use in dishes throughout the year! Whatever you get for brunch at The Grocery, you can be assured of a delightful dish that’s super satisfying. French toast and Bloody Marys are my brunch faves, and I always love a place like The Grocery where I can get both.
