Meet the Blogger: Kelsey Hill

January 9, 2020

I’ve had a blog for over 10 years. From my first mommy blog, Fried Pink Tomato, to a lifestyle blog for Southwest Florida called Sunshine State Skinny, to my lifestyle and travel blog for the Holy City where you’re reading this now, I’ve been amazed at the community I’ve been able to build through blogging, especially in the Charleston blogger scene.

I love sharing all my tips and tricks for the Holy City with locals and tourists alike, and I’ve been blessed to meet some pretty cool people along the way. The experience of being a Charleston blogger wouldn’t be the same without a community of like-minded creators, so I want to highlight some of my favorites for you, starting with Kelsey Hill of Chasing Cinderella.

I met Kelsey several years ago. We kept bumping into each other at some of the Charleston blogger events. I love her blog, where she shares awesome and affordable outfit ideas. She and I both love Netflix, Target, and puppies. Kelsey’s a sweetheart and is always willing to collaborate with other local bloggers, which I appreciate! I got together with Kelsey to answer a few questions so you can get a feel for her:

What was your career before blogging?

I did marketing for a new home construction company! It was just as glamorous as it sounds… which is to say not very glamorous at all! Blogging definitely allowed me to stretch my creative side more.

Why did you start a blog?

I had already been reading a ton of fashion blogs in college and loved to follow them! When I moved home and got my “glamorous” marketing job, I really wanted something where I could be creative in my own way. So I figured, why not a blog?

What does Chasing Cinderella mean?

I get asked what Chasing Cinderella means a lot, and I laugh because it doesn’t really mean anything! I had THE hardest time trying to come up with a name (everything was already taken). I’m a huge Disney fan, so when I came up with Chasing Cinderella and it wasn’t taken, I thought, “Okay, I guess that’s it!” I actually go back and forth about changing it every day, but it seems like it’s here to stay for a little while at least.

What kind of camera do you use and who is your photographer?

Lately, almost all of my photos are taken with my iPhone! But I do have a Nikon D3100 that my fiancé (soon to be husband) will use from time to time!

What do you use to edit your iPhone photos and schedule your Instagram posts?

I use the Lightroom app to edit my iPhone photos, and I use Planoly to plan and schedule out my posts!

If someone wants to become a blogger, what is one piece of advice you can share?

Start it for the right reasons! If you’re wanting to start a blog just for the money or the free stuff, you’re not going to love it in the long run.
