24 Hours in Surf City

November 21, 2019

Only have 24 hours to soak up the Southern California charm of Huntington Beach? I’ve got the perfect day planned for you in Surf City. Rightfully named for its sunny climate and 10-mile stretch of beach perfect for surfing, Huntington Beach has plenty in store for every kind of vacationer, so grab your sunglasses and get ready to dive in!

Breakfast at Pacific Hideaway:
Start your day off with a feast for both your appetite and your eyes! Pacific Hideaway, located right downtown, serves up a wide variety of delicious brunch dishes inspired by Southeast Asia, Latin America, and the Pacific Islands, all while offering a gorgeous view of the ocean from the patio.

Surf’s Up at Toes on the Nose:
After breakfast, it’s time to literally dip your toes into Huntington Beach’s claim to fame with surf lessons at Toes on the Nose Surf Shop. Located in the Hyatt Regency Huntington Beach, the shop offers lessons for all skill levels so that you can give surfing a shot in Surf City!

Lunch at Pete’s Sunset Grille:
If you’ve never surfed before, be aware it’ll really take it out of you! Luckily you can refuel with lunch at Pete’s Sunset Grille, conveniently located in the Hyatt Regency. Their wide range of salads and sandwiches are perfect for a lunch to immerse yourself in the surf and sand culture of Huntington Beach.

Relax at the Pacific Waters Spa:
Keeping with the Spanish-style architecture of the rest of the resort, Pacific Waters Spa combines the feeling of a Mediterranean oasis with the laid back, Southern California lifestyle right outside its doors. The spa offers many different treatments, all using natural products and access to amenities like the sauna, personal lockers, and outdoor relaxation areas, but if you only have a day, I’d recommend one of their massages.

Shop at Pacific City:
Next, make your way back towards the downtown area, where you can spend the rest of your afternoon and evening. Make sure to hit up one of Huntington Beach’s trademark areas, Pacific City, where you can shop to your heart’s content. With an astounding number of stores in its outdoor storefront, Pacific City is an ideal place to browse around for a while.

Catch the Sunset on the Huntington Beach Pier:
You can’t miss the Huntington Beach Pier, jutting out over the Pacific Ocean and offering views of Surf City’s famous coastline. Take a stroll down the 1,850-foot pier (one of the longest on the West Coast) while the sun is setting for some truly spectacular sights.

Dinner at Ola Mexican Kitchen:
After the sun sets, it’s time to tuck in for dinner at Ola Mexican Kitchen. A wall full of windows means you can see the ocean from almost anywhere you sit while you devour any of the amazing dishes on the menu. Their elevated classic selections are familiar yet fresh and perfect for the coastal setting.

Wind Down at The Bungalow Huntington Beach:
Finish off your evening with a drink from The Bungalow. The brick and leather interior conjures up memories of vintage happy hours after a long day of surfing while their outdoor patio sparkles with plenty of gorgeous lanterns hung from the many trees. Either atmosphere is a good choice to enjoy one of The Bungalow’s signature cocktails, plus you might even spot a celebrity or two like I did!
