5 Reasons to Stay at Westin Kierland Scottsdale

April 24, 2019

Y’all, 2019 has been INSANELY busy for me. I am pretty darn laidback for the most part but the chaos of my life this year has given me a bit of anxiety. I am the quintessential “Yes” man (or shall I say “Yes” woman). I try to do everything, please everyone, and jam way too much into a single day. I love to work, always have and always will. But at some point I realized I have got to slow down. I was catching up with my sweet friends Ashley & Portia and we decided to book a relaxing girls trip to Phoenix, AZ. It was exactly what my soul needed.

About The Westin Kierland

After reading amazing reviews online, we decided to stay The Westin Kierland. It is located in the heart of “new” Scottsdale and goodness this place will fill you with a sense of old Arizona. The grounds are stunning, the amenities are over the top, and the location is ideal. Here are 5 reasons I highly recommend staying at The Westin Kierland.

  1. The Pools & Water Park
  2. The Fantastic Food
  3. The Agave Spa
  4. Location, Location, Location
  5. Golf & Mountain View Rooms

#1. Pools & Water Park

The Westin Kierland Resort features multiple pools and a water park, which includes a 900-foot lazy river, a surf simulator and a 110-foot waterslide. We decided to spend a majority of our time at the adults-only pool. The heated “adult pool” is a quiet retreat and is open 24 hours. I rarely enjoy a quiet vacation without Harper so I had to soak up the silence. I honestly don’t remember the last time I laid by the pool and got a tan. Y’all it was freaking fantastic. Mamas, treat yourselves. You need it! You can also rent private cabanas by the pool. We rented a cabana for the day and it was amazing. There’s nothing better than drinking Piña coladas, eating frozen grapes, and basking in the Arizona sun.

The Kierland Cabana rental includes:

  • Two chaise lounges with umbrella
  • Table with four chairs and ceiling fan
  • Chips and salsa
  • Bowl of frozen grapes
  • Fiji Waters (4)

#2 The Incredible Food

There are six restaurants at The Westin Kierland, ranging from Southwestern-style and Latin American cuisine to a Scotch Library with 300 different Scotch selections to taste. Each restaurant offers menus that feature unique local ingredients and items, such as bacon-flavored olive oil, Maytag blue cheese stuffed olives and chocolate-covered dates.

We went to Deseo and it was INCREDIBLE. It  showcases Latin American flavors in seafood and meat dishes; it also offers an extensive wine list. Y’all I seriously cannot recommend this place enough. The staff was the best, the menu was so unique and every dish had so much flavor, and the atmosphere was absolutely beautiful. Plus we were surprised with live music outside of the restaurant. The resort hosts Scottish Bagpipes at Sunset! If you go, I highly recommend ordering:

  • Ceviche (try the chutoro tiradito and the wild sea bass).
  • Pan de bono (this bread is served with garlic butter and it was insanely good).
  • Wagyu Hanger Steak “churrasco” style (the chimichurri was on point).
  • Make sure you try dessert! They were all decadent and delicious.

Check out the Deseo menu HERE.

#3 The Agave Spa

Steeped in rare traditional therapies handed down from Arizona’s many healing cultures, Agave, offers a desert-inspired retreat designed to rejuvenate and renew the mind, body and spirit with a refined collection of treatments. Situated along a citrus-tree lined pathway within its own courtyard, the Spa’s amenities include:

  • 20 treatment rooms
  • Movement Studio
  • WestinWORKOUT® Fitness Studio featuring state-of-the-art cardio and strength-training equipment
  • Men’s and Ladies’ Locker Rooms (each with a whirlpool, sauna and steam room)
  • Juice bar
  • Full-service salon

I decided to experience the Agave Master Massage.  It incorporates exclusive essential oils and is designed to transform you by soothing sore muscles, increasing your circulation and it promotes total relaxation. I freaking love essential oils and this massage was so so so good. I went with medium pressure and I added a cannabidiol (CBD) remedy enhancement. The CBD remedies are priced at $19 each and are available as an add-on to a variety of massage therapy treatments. I added one to my massage.  They used Mary’s Elite Compound which is formulated as a deep penetration topical containing 100mg of activated hemp extract that may be applied locally to muscles, joints or tender areas. I was in a bad car accident a few years ago and I still experience some serious tightness and pain around my neck. The Mary’s Muscle Freeze combines natural plant extracts for a soothing, cooling effect to provide quick relief with 200mg of activated hemp extract. It felt so good y’all! I highly recommend this spot!

#4 Location, Location, Location

The Westin Kierland is located in the heart of “new” Scottsdale and is the perfect base camp for your Arizona adventure or your visit to one of our many area attractions. One wonderful amenity that The Westin Kierland offers is a complimentary shuttle to Kierland Commons and Scottsdale Quarter – a delightful shopping and dining area adjacent to the resort. When the weather is nice, you can stroll over but I preferred to just hop on the shuttle. It is super fast and I never waited longer than 5 minutes. Plus the resort is only a 20 minute drive to Old Town Scottsdale. If y’all are kids-free on your trip, you MUST make it to Old Town. They have a strip of amazing outdoor bars and and it is one of the best club scenes I have ever been to. Ladies if you are booking a bachelorette party, go to SCOTTSDALE! It is way too much fun.

#5 Golf & Mountain View Rooms

I am not Tiger Woods, but I love to play golf! Westin Kierland Golf Club is a Scottsdale “must play.” The course was actually honored as the “2017 Arizona Golf Course of the Year” by the National Golf Course Owners Association of Arizona. Want to really take your game up a notch?! They offer Scottish-themed gold. That is right people, you can play golf in a traditional Scottish kilt. Plus, the Golf Club features a fleet of golf transports ranging from Golfboards, golf bikes, Segway golf and four seater family-friendly golf carts, to the newly introduced Kierland TurfRiders. Y’all riding around a golf course on a Segway while wearing a kilt? That is what blogger golf dreams are made of.

Our room was very clean, spacious, and had the most incredible view. If  you love to golf, you’ll get inspired every time you draw your curtains and step out onto your private balcony. I loved to look out over the lush golf course mountain range in the horizon.
