After a long day of work, nothing beats relaxing with a glass of wine and a delicious charcuterie board. With a laid-back, intimate vibe, Uncork Charleston has quickly become one of my favorite spots to unwind, and their Power Hour offers some of the best deals on King Street!
As soon as you enter Uncork, you’ll be instantly intrigued by their Enomatic system, an automatic wine dispenser which allows you to choose from over 40 high-end wines that would usually only be offered by the bottle. The system uses argon/nitrogen gas to protect the wine from oxidization, preserving the taste, aroma, and color long after the first glass is poured. During their early Power Hour (it happens twice a day!), Uncork offers 15% off of all Enomatic wines, meaning you’ll get to enjoy your favorites for a fraction of the price!

If wine isn’t your go-to, Power Hour boasts half-off craft cocktails. Uncork’s cocktail list is full of playful takes on classic concoctions, like the Hampton Herbtini (a martini accented with scorched sage), and Unfashioned Meeting (an updated old fashioned featuring a red wine reduction).

You can’t have a proper happy hour without yummy snacks, and for just $7 you can whet your appetite with a choice of meatballs in house marinara with a fresh baguette, marinated Greek olives and pickles, or local hummus three ways with freshly toasted pita. I recommend pairing your pick with one of their four or six piece cheese and charcuterie boards to get the full Uncork experience!

I had the chance to chat with Uncork’s head chef Natasha Cline and used the opportunity to pick her brain on some of my most pressing questions about her delicious food:
Q: What was your inspiration behind the menu at Uncork?
A: My inspiration behind the menu is to create a distinct connection between the food I make and the memories people hold with loved ones around the table. A lot of my dishes take them back to recipes their grandmothers used to make, or other memories connected to the taste, smell and texture. My mother grew up in Germany and learned to cook from her grandmother. It’s an honor to carry the tradition.
Q: Uncork has so many incredible wines to choose from! What’s your go-to wine and cheese pairing?
A: My go-to pairing would be Nebbiolo from Barbaresco (a full-bodied red wine) with triple Brie. The creaminess of the brie offsets the tannins in the wine nicely, making them the perfect pair.
Q: What tips can you share on how to put together the perfect charcuterie & fromage board at home?
A: Patience! Take your time when you’re laying out the components; try to think of it like painting a picture that you can eat. Place the cheese down on your board first, then fill in where you would like your cured meats to be and after that slowly build in the extra goodies where they would fit best. For example, I usually put walnuts or almonds near the asiago because of the cheese’s natural nutty flavor.
Q: If you had to eat one of your menu items every day for a year, which one would you pick?
A: It would be the roasted beef pot roast we just added. Traditional pot roast with carrots, celery, onion and potatoes with a nice pan gravy. I have always been a hearty eater.
Q: What’s your favorite easy weeknight dinner at home, and can you share the recipe with us?
A: Chicken Piccata is one of my favorite easy meals. Preheat your oven to 385֯ and put in a pan of broccoli and carrots with coconut or grapeseed oil drizzled over the top, seasoned with salt, pepper and red pepper flakes. Next, sauté chicken breasts or tenders in a pan with a tablespoon of coconut or grapeseed oil. Add capers and lemon juice to your pan and a touch of cream. Once your chicken and sauce are cooked thoroughly, add salt and pepper and pull your vegetables out of the oven; you’ll know that they’re ready when they’re nice and crispy. Allow everything to cool then add your vegetables to your plate and lay your chicken on top, drizzle pan sauce over the chicken and enjoy!
